The triumphant return

Well that’s it. The holiday of a lifetime is over, and we’re back to our mundane little lives. We’ve only been back for a couple of weeks, and most of that was spent recovering properly from the 8 hour time difference and then recovering from general illness, but memories of the trip are already starting to fade. This makes me sad. Luckily we blogged every detail, so we’ll never forget.

The plan was to spend my time as passenger in an epic road trip knitting and crocheting merrily away, coming home with a ton of finished projects. Not so much. Instead I spent the whole month slowly working on my Urban Houndstooth Cardigan, which admittedly is a lot further on than it was when we left but is still barely cardigan-shaped at all.

I'll get a better pic soon!

Excuse the bra, I’ll get a better pic soon.

In total I managed to make progress on this over Nebraska, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, California, Oregon and Washington, so you might be surprised at how little is actually finished, but really an unexpected amount of time was taken up with staring out of the car window at the constantly changing scenery and trying to spot number plates from all 50 states (We managed most of them, including Alaska and Hawaii. Curse you Delaware!). The fit is better than it looks in the photo, I’d managed to lose my grip and the edges had rolled under themselves, plus there’s an oversized shawl collar to go on, so I’m pretty happy with how it’s turning out.

Here are some holiday highlights, for those who enjoy that kind of thing.

It was an excellent trip and it’s difficult not to be depressed about being back, but throwing myself back into crafting is helping a little bit. I’ve actually finished one project since we got back (watch out for that one this FO Friday), picked up where I left off on another, and am trying to decide between winding another ball of the purple and continuing with the cardigan or casting on something new with the souvenir yarn I bought. We can probably all guess which way that decision will go, in the end.

Now to get to grips with Ravelry messages, tutorial ideas and life in general. Wish me luck :\
