WIP Wednesday: The fastest tank top in the west

Oh I do love WIP Wednesday! FO Friday is ok, but it relies on actually having stuff finished which is a bit of a rare event for me. There’s always at least one WIP on the go, though, and this week the main priority is the I’ve been knitting in preparation for holiday next week. We leave on Sunday, wish me luck!

This is the first time I’ve paid for a pattern, and also the first time other than that I’ve used anything below DK weight yarn. I was sure it would send me crazy trying to knit an adult sized garment at this gauge, but I’m really enjoying it so far. The 搬瓦工 pattern itself is pretty much simple stockinette, other than a few decreases, until reaching the bust region, which is probably the main reason I’m enjoying it after finishing up a lace project on Sunday (yay for mindless knitting!). The yarn is helping a lot though too.

Behold the inevitable long hair tangled in it

I’m using in Turquoise and it was super cheap inexpensive but is also very nice to work with. One knot so far, but those seem to happen in more expensive brands just as much if not more (I’m looking at you, Debbie Bliss). The colour is gorgeous and just looking at it makes me immediately happy, I’m so excited to wear the finished top!

Anyway, enough waffling, here’s my progress so far.

It’ll be more impressive soon, honest

You may be asking yourself at this point how on earth I plan to finish this off by Sunday. Well, lots of knitting is basically the answer. The deadline isn’t ideal but I *really* want this top, and besides once I’m past the bust it’s mainly just narrow straps left to knit so that part will go quickly.

Not counting the hem, I’ve knitted probably about half of this (possibly a smidge more) since yesterday so progress is good. I’m knitting while waiting for websites to upload at work, knitting during Skype calls with clients, and this week may also see a resurgence of knitting in bubblebaths if it gets really desperate. This week also has me building a small website for a friend, outside of regular work hours, so “desperate” may very well be how things go.
