Design Donors, or “Hey look it’s a thing I can actually do!”

Most people stumbling across this blog will know it already; Ravelry has a group for everything. EVERYTHING. So I shouldn’t have been surprised to find a group full of volunteer designers who enjoy nothing more than giving up their spare time to create pretty banners, badges and ads for other group owners. I’m one of those people who, upon joining a new community like Ravelry, will immediately look for things they can do to help whether people want them to or not. So this seemed perfect for me.

I joined the Design Donors group as soon as I discovered it, spent the next week and a bit being far too shy to reply to any of the threads, then in a bout of recklessness decided to take on two requests at once. I’d never claim to be the world’s best designer, but figured I could probably do better than your average group owner and finally plucked up the courage to give it a shot.

One of the threads I replied to included the sentence “There was an attempt but no follow thru after I didn’t like what she did” so my nerves were somewhat understandable, and then my week suddenly got very busy and the 7 day deadline seemed to be approaching far too fast for me to get them both done.

Cue distressing thoughts like “I’ll never be able to log into Ravelry again, everyone will know me as that girl who doesn’t do what she promises!” and general full movie Guardians 2017

Happily I found time to throw something together after getting home from the wedding we went to last weekend, and both of my group owners are very pleased with the result. Hooray! Without further ado I present to you:

Saphira Knits Lace, a group for discussion and testing of patterns by the eponymous Saphira.

Toddler Hats, which is a pretty self-explanatory name for a group. As of the time of writing the owner of this one hasn’t uploaded the new images yet, but I’m sure it’ll be very pretty once she does.

So there we go, officially my first properly useful contribution to the knitting community. Here’s hoping there’ll be many more! Maybe one day I’ll have enough under my belt to make some sort of dedicated page, won’t that be nice?
